JAPANESE INFANTRY

This seven pose set was first seen in the May 1970 magazine, listed for forthcoming release. However, the official release was not announced until May 1971 and appeared to be a space filling afterthought as the announcement is hidden away in a remote corner of the mag. It did appear in the 1971 catalogue. The figures were originally moulded in tan and this was changed to almost black for the Humbrol issue in 1986.

Seven poses for this set followed by a full set numbered 1 to 29.  Next photo shows baseless figures with (and without) moulding lugs attached.  The kneeling figures are very difficult to find with the moulding lugs still attached as the connection is not strong.  The next picture shows a set from a 1980/81 super pack with the figures in a sealed plastic bag along with their compliment slip (in true Airfix style, some of the bags have the complaints slip inside and some don't).  Next is the Humbrol re-issue set in black plastic and then four pics of different base shapes, the first two showing the additional officer (right) for the 1977/1978 issues.

In June 2008 Norman Pelz from Germany sent me these two images.  The first shows a set of Japanese Infantry which is almost green when compared to a "usual" set.  The second obviously shows how green the set actually is when compared to other sets.
