Close on the heels of the German Paratroops, the Mountain Troops set was released in February 1977, having been seen in the previous year's catalogue. The illustration in the catalogue is done in the 1973 box style and states "49 32ND SCALE PIECES"! A superb set, this is another one which can be found with a range of accessories as well as 29 figures. Not as extensive as the British Infantry Support Group, there were twenty extra pieces including six skis, six skis with boots for the three skiing figures, six ski poles and two bipods for the prone machine-gunners. All these items would be attached to sprues. The set was moulded first in dark blue and then, for the 1978 box, in grey. The grey sets are quite rare. There are twelve different poses in the set. Only the large boxes were available for this set due to the accessories.

Twelve poses plus accessories and all the figures with moulding lugs. This is the only Airfix set to include a two-figure single pose. The third picture is of the re-issued set from 2010 in a light green colour.
The same again but in light grey. This is actually a CTS re-issue from the US but is virtually the same as the Airfix original. And the fourth photo shows them in their CTS bag.
This is how this set was pictured in the 1976 Airfix Catalogue, as with the German Paratroops it is in the 1973 style, and then again in the 1977 catalogue with a blue edge which never saw production.
